Discussion... 
mean southerly flow pattern aloft will continue over northern 
Alaska through the upcoming week...with several short wave 
troughs and ridges moving northward in the flow. The first of these 
will transit northern Alaska Monday night into Tuesday...followed by a weak ripple 
moving northward across the area late Wednesday night into Thursday. 


At the surface...974 mb low approaching the Alaska Peninsula will 
weaken over Bristol Bay tonight as it splits into two 
centers. The weak western center will move nwwd across 
SW Alaska Monday...filling to around 994 mb over Norton Sound 
by Monday evening. The western low system may bring scattered 
areas of snow or snow showers to the southern/central 
West Coast areas and SW interior. 


A stronger system is prognosticated to move northward to the pribilofs 
by Wednesday am...then curving westward as it enters its filling 
stages. Gales developing in pkz210...brisk winds in pkz200 
developing Wednesday evening ahead of this system. 


A chance of snow or snow showers over much of the interior 
Monday night into Tuesday with the first short wave. The next weak 
ripply may bring some spotty snow showers to parts of the northern 
interior and Brooks range. 


Southerly Chinook flow will be predominant in the Alaska 
Range...wind speeds will likely bounce up and down but remain 
below advisory levels. 


In the medium range...GFS and European model (ecmwf) ensemble means indicate 
a continuation of a S to SW flow pattern...but with gradually 
lowering heights. Temperatures over most of the forecast area 
likely to remain above normal through the middle of the week... 
then edging down a bit closer to normal towards the end of the 
week.
