Area forecast discussion National Weather Service Memphis Tennessee 641 am CDT Wednesday may 16 2012 Discussion... Update for 12z aviation discussion && Previous discussion... /issued 250 am CDT Wednesday may 16 2012/ Skies are mostly clear across much of the forecast area early this morning with temperatures ranging from the middle 50s to middle 60s. A cold front currently extends from Northeast Indiana through central Missouri and into southeast Colorado. This front will move south today and weaken some. Some showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop ahead of the front with a small chance of this activity moving into extreme northern sections of the forecast area this afternoon and this evening. Otherwise most areas will be dry with temperatures a couple of degrees above normal. The front will push through the forecast tonight and continue to weaken. High pressure will build into the eastern Great Lakes Thursday. This will keep dry weather over the forecast area from Thursday through much of the weekend. An isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible during the afternoon or early evening hours both Friday and Saturday but chance remains small. By Sunday a cold front will be slowly moving across the plains states. Some of the showers and thunderstorms expected to develop ahead of the front may reach northwest sections parts of eastern Arkansas and the Missouri bootheel during the afternoon. The front will move into northwest Arkansas Sunday night with a threat of thunderstorms over the northwest half of the forecast area. By Monday the front will move into the forecast but will be weakening so there will only be a small chance of thunderstorms across much of the forecast area. By Monday night...what is left of the cold front will remain over the forecast area leaving a continued chance of isolated thunderstorms for both Monday night and Tuesday.
