NWS Forecaster Discussion

Area forecast discussion
National Weather Service Jackson MS
323 PM CDT Tuesday may 22 2012

Discussion...
a large trough over the eastern Continental U.S. Is slowly moving north and
east. The upper low is currently over east Alabama and the
associated frontal boundary is stretching down to and across the
Gulf Coast...triggering storms along it. The passing of the front
means drier air for US. Dewpoints are in the 50s now and precipitable waters are
below 1 inch across our area. The leftover moisture from the frontal
passage has formed some scattered cumulus over the southern half of the
County Warning Area. As the sun GOES down...the skies will clear.

Forecast is fairly straightforward for the next few days or so.
Wednesday...temperatures will warm to above normal again /mid to upper
80s/. A little shortwave moving over the County Warning Area could help trigger some
isolated storms in the afternoon over the far southwest. Not very
confident this will happen however. Thursday Onward...high pressure
begins to build into the south. Temperatures will warm to the low to middle
90s by the weekend. The high pressure will hold for the next week
until a disturbance moves into the area again. /10/

Long term...
Thursday through next Tuesday... with high pressure at the
surface...upper ridging will strengthen and remain firmly in place
across the region during much of the forecast period. Any chances for
rain during this time will be slim and confined to the afternoon
hours during peak heating. Conditions will also warm through the
period as highs climb into the lower & middle 90s heading into
Memorial Day weekend. Meanwhile...lows each night will only fall into
the middle and upper 60s. /19/

&&

Aviation...
predominantly VFR conds will prevail over the next 24 hours. MVFR visibility
restrictions may develop around sunrise at mei/hbg. Light nearly winds
will continue through the rest of the day...gradually becmg nerly/Erly
tomorrow morning. /Bk/
