Short term... 
a much quieter weather day is in store today with warming 
temperatures. Early this morning precipitation continues across much 
of west central Texas...with a mix of rain and sleet over the 
southern counties and a mix of freezing rain...sleet and snow over 
the northern two thirds of the area. Temperatures should continue to 
slowly rise through the morning hours with a transition to all rain 
by 12z. Expect much of the sleet/ice/snow that has accumulated to 
melt shortly after sunrise. As the upper level trough moves east of 
the region...expect precipitation to quickly clear from west to east 
this morning. Left in slight chance to chance probability of precipitation across the 
eastern half of the area...with most of the precipitation moving out 
between 15z and 18z. Skies will also clear this morning from west to 
east...and southwest then west winds will increase to 15 to 20 miles per hour 
as a Lee trough develops over eastern New Mexico and the Texas 
Panhandle. Temperatures will quickly rebound this morning and top 
out in the upper 50s to middle 60s across the area. Decent radiational 
cooling conditions will setup tonight as southwest winds become 
light under clear skies. Low temperatures will generally drop into 
the middle and upper 30s...with a few areas only reaching the lower 
40s. 


Long term... 
forecast for the remainder of the week has not changed much...as a 
series of upper level storm systems will move across the Southern 
Plains. Longwave trough will remain parked across the western 
US...with a series of shortwaves rotating through the trough and 
out into the plains. First of these systems will arrive on 
Wednesday...and the second on Friday. Models have shown some 
inconsistency in how they want to handle the Friday 
shortwave... but agreement on the Wednesday wave remains good. 
Will continue the slight chance probability of precipitation already in the forecast. 


Seasonal temperatures will also continue...with no hints of 
another Arctic front approaching anytime soon.
