Eastern Magic Valley

Special Statement  Statement as of 1:30 PM MST on November 25, 2014

... Major winter storm will cross southern Idaho on Thanksgiving weekend...

Present indications are that a major winter storm will move into
central Idaho Friday evening and spread across eastern Idaho
Friday night... continue on Saturday... and linger at least into
Sunday. This storm is coming with warm moist air... which will mean
heavy snows in the mountains and passes... while areas in the Snake
River Plain will see a sloppy mixture of daytime rain and snow
turning to all snow at night.

Snow fall amounts in the central Idaho mountains and in the higher
elevations of the Wyoming and Montana border will be measured in
terms of feet... although most of the towns in the region should
expect snowfall to remain under a foot in accumulation. The storm
will be accompanied with strong wind which will cause the snow to
drift and reduce visibility in blowing snow. This means successful
efforts to keep roads clear will be more difficult to achieve.

Persons planning travel on the Thanksgiving weekend should
consider planning wisely. If you have to travel... plan on daytime
travel to take advantage of the periods when it will be raining
rather than snowing. Plan for longer time to reach your
destination. Carry enough Money and emergency supplies such as
warm clothing. Choose the Route that stays at lower
elevations... even though it may be a longer distance to drive to
your destination.
