The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a Winter
Storm Watch for snow... which is in effect from
Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. A Winter Weather
Advisory for snow in effect from 10 am Friday to 4 am PST
Saturday for the South Washington and north Oregon Cascades
remains in effect until 4 PM PST Saturday.

A colder air mass is spreading over the forecast area today
... Allowing snow levels to fall to 2500 feet in South Washington
Cascades... and to 3000 feet in the north Oregon Cascades by late
afternoon. New accumulations of snow for the remainder of today
and tonight are expected to total 8 to 12 inches.

Showers will decrease a bit late tonight through Saturday
morning... but another front will arrive later Saturday. This will
bring another round of significant snow to the Cascades as snow
levels remain low. On Saturday... snow levels will rise briefly to
3500 feet in South Washington and to 4000 feet in Oregon... but
fall back to 2000 to 2500 feet Saturday night. New accumulations
of snow of 12 to 18 inches are likely Saturday afternoon through
early Sunday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
