South Washington Coast

High Surf Advisory  Statement as of 12:36 PM PST on March 11, 2010

... High surf advisory remains in effect until midnight PST
tonight for the South Washington and north and central Oregon
coasts...

A high surf advisory remains in effect until midnight PST
tonight.

An incoming swell train near 20 ft... combined with long swell
periods of 14 to 15 seconds... will create hazardous surf
conditions along the coast. These conditions are expected to
persist through midnight tonight. Though this could be a marginal
event ... swell with long periods are still quite dangerous and
caution should be used along the beaches.

It can be very dangerous to venture near the coast under high
surf conditions. People have been swept off rocks and jetties and
have drowned while observing high surf. Stay well back from the
Waters Edge and be alert for the exceptionally high wave.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.
