Greater Vancouver Area
... Wintry mix of snow... sleet... and freezing rain possible for
the Friday morning commute...
Snow... sleet and freezing rain are possible in the Willamette
Valley Friday morning. Snow is expected in the foothills and
Cascades... but warming air will cause snow to turn to rain in the
passes during the late afternoon and evening.
Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing tonight across
most of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. A warm front will
move down from the north during the morning hours spreading light
precipitation across the area. Precipitation will likely begin as
light snow in many areas... including The Lowlands of the
Willamette Valley... then transition to sleet and freezing rain
during the morning. Accumulations of snow in The Lowlands will be
light... generally less than half an inch before precipitation
turns to sleet or freezing rain. Warm air aloft will move in
rapidly during the day with precipitation changing to rain in
most areas by mid afternoon.
There is still a great deal of uncertainty in whether
precipitation will begin before warmer air moves in Friday
morning. This will be critical in whether or not a significant
winter event will impact the commute Friday morning. We recommend
staying informed by monitoring the latest weather forecasts as
this situation evolves.
